KOLKATA: The country's virtual reality headset market shipment value has reached over $3.4 million in the January-March quarter of this year, according to the latest research by 6Wresearch.
The research says that advancement in computer technology and internet connectivity coupled with increasing investments in virtual reality technology and growing application segments across the media and entertainment industry have fuelled the growth of the virtual headset market in India.
Moreover, rising demand from gaming enthusiasts as well as with recent launch from major smartphone players such as Samsung and Lenovo have further boosted the market, it said.
The research said that ANTVR and DOMO together captured more than 85% share of the market, with more than 11 vendors shipping virtual headsets in India.
"Increasing demand for virtual reality technology among mobile users, the introduction of entry-level VR headsets in the market, and effective marketing from smartphone manufacturers have boosted the India virtual reality market. Additionally, increasing application segments such as healthcare, industrial, education, and retail & marketing have further boosted the demand for VR headsets in the country," said Anuj Mehrotra, senior research analyst at 6Wresearch-India electronics division.
