At a time when channel community of systems integrators and solution providers are looking for better and innovative ways to increase on their profitability, the set-top box segment is surely one area where there is a lot of potential in the coming months.
According to 6Wresearch, the Indian set top box market has recorded a total shipment of 55, 58,910 units in the CY Q2 2013, this is a 5 percent increase to the previous quarter.
Skyworth still remains the market leader with a market share of 38 percent followed by Cisco and Skynet. In CY Q2 2013, the DVB-C type of STBs experienced a growth of more than 12 percent as compared to CY Q1 2013. Skyworth, Cisco, and Skynet together aggregate 59 percent of the total market share in terms of total unit shipments for India STB market.
The unit shipments for Skyworth exhibited a remarkable increase of around 71 percent in CY Q2 2013 as compared to CY Q1 2013. Skynet skyrocketed with the phenomenal growth of whooping 283 percent for CY Q2 2013. However, Cisco experienced a decline of 10 percent in total unit shipments for CY Q2 2013.
With regards to category wise total unit shipments, the QoQ market for DVB-C (Cable) type of STBs witnessed an increase of 12 percent. However, the demand for DTH STBs declined by 45 percent in the overall shipments for the Indian STB market.
