Total Shipments for Set Top Boxes in India amounted to 3.09 million Units in CY Q3 2013; representing a drastic decline of 57% to the previous 7.16 million Unit Shipments of CY Q2 2013; TECHNICOLOR emerged as the new market leader followed by SKYWORTH. Slow uptake of STBs and excess of stock in the CY Q2 2013, delay in the collection of CAF (Cable Applicable Form) from Cable TV subscribers as well as slow intake of revenues in the system are some of the major factors resulting in the decline of total Unit Shipments in the current quarter.

In CY Q3 2013, the DTH STBs overtook the Cable STBs leadership by registering 66% market share followed by Cable and Terrestrial STB (Free to Air). In CY Q3 2013, TECHNICOLOR experienced a considerable increase in Unit Shipments by approximately 40% as compared to CY Q2 2013, replacing SKYWORTH and emerged as the largest player. In the current quarter, TECHNICOLOR and SKYWORTH together aggregate 59% of the total market share in terms of the Total Unit Shipments in the India Set Top Box Market.

In CY Q3 2013 MPEG-4 featured Set Top Boxes registered 61% of the total market share, an increase of 23% as compared to previous quarter. Further, HD (High Definition) Set Top Boxes recorded 22% of the market share, a decrease of 36% compared to CY Q2 2013.
