The software-defined data center (SDDC) is a concept that enables IT teams to modularize, automate and virtualize the entire data center infrastructure. In an SDDC environment, all physical hardware components are abstracted from the underlying software layers, enabling further agility and flexibility in provisioning of services like networking, storage solutions and compute resources. Furthermore, with the help of abstraction layer provided by various hypervisors and containers it becomes easier for organizations to switch between different technologies thus allowing them more flexibility over their IT stack. Cost Savings - By eliminating costs associated with purchasing new hardware every time an upgrade or addition is required , organizations can now use existing on premise resources more efficiently resulting in better cost savings . Additionally , reduction in maintenance costs owing to automation performed by orchestration tools also contributes towards overall reduction in operational expenses .

Setting up a successful SDDC requires understanding complex orchestration systems which many times need specialized skillsets which not many organisations possess currently leading to challenges during deployment phase. Security Concerns?Due to distributed architecture employed by most modern day SDDC?s there could be risks associated with potential unauthorized access or manipulation. Performance Issues? Depending upon system load some architectures might suffer performance degradation since sharing physical resources among multiple tenants needs careful monitoring and tuning.
