Potassium phosphite is an inorganic salt that is derived from the combination of potassium and phosphorous. It is a white or colorless solid used as a fertilizer. Potassium phosphites are manufactured by reacting potassium hydroxide with either metaphosphoric acid, pyrophosphoric acid, or polyphosphoric acids. The resulting product can be further reacted with additional phosphorus compounds to produce various types of potassium phosphites.
The demand for potassium phosphite has been increasing due to its wide variety of applications in agricultural fertilizers and other industrial processes such as water treatment, electroplating, pharmaceuticals etc. Furthermore, it offers many advantages over traditional fertilizers which include improved soil fertility and increased crop yield while also being more cost-effective compared to other sources of phosphate nutrition in agriculture. Moreover, the growth in population and rising awareness towards healthy diets has increased the need for high-quality food production methods which drives the market for potassium phosphite.
The primary driver behind this segment?s growth is attributed to its use as an effective source of phosphate nutrition for plants along with its low price point compared to traditional fertilizers like mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP). Additionally, its ability to increase crop yields without damaging soil composition makes it suitable for organic farming practices thus leading farmers towards opting this form of phosphate nutrition instead of using synthetic ones. Moreover advancements made in manufacturing technologies have enabled producers across different countries such as China and India to manufacture quality products at competitive prices thereby driving global demand higher.
Due to the covid pandemic there was a worldwide decline seen in economic activity affecting all markets including that of Potassium Phosphate market too. This resulted into companies reducing their production activities worldwide due to lack of availability raw materials , labor force shortage resulting into supply chain disruptions causing industry wide delays & shortages. As most countries went under lockdown there was also sudden decrease observed ion consumer spending on non essential commodities including agricultural inputs like fertlisers thereby affecting demand side making situation worse - even effecting pricing dynamics significantly.
Countries Are Facing Severe Shortage Of Resources Resulting Into Production Delays And Supply Chain DisruptionsLow Prices Of Traditional Sources Of Phosphates Such As Mono Ammonium Phosphates(Map) Has Put Pressure On Producers.
In terms of value share, Yara International ASA held a significant share in 2020; however, PT Pupuk Kujang was leading with respect to production capacity in 2019. Other key players operating in this market include K+S Kali GmbH (Germany), Sinofert Holdings Ltd. (China), Haifa Group (Israel), PotashCorp (Canada) ,ICL Specialty Fertilizers BVBA., etc.
