Internal combustion engines (ICEs) are the most common form of propulsion used in vehicles today. They convert energy produced by burning a fuel (such as gasoline, diesel or other hydrocarbon fuels) into mechanical power to move a vehicle forward. In Thailand, internal combustion engines are widely used for powering automobiles such as cars and motorcycles, commercial vehicles like trucks and buses, construction equipment such as excavators and trenchers, agricultural machinery such as tractors and combine harvesters; marine applications like boats and ships; stationary industrial applications like generators etc. Thus ICEs have an extensive presence in Thailand automotive industry due to their cost-effectiveness as well the availability of high quality components from local suppliers.
The demand for ICEs is driven by the increasing automobile production & sales in Thailand which has seen impressive growth over the last few years despite facing economic headwinds from time to time. This is mainly attributed to government???s policy initiatives that provide tax incentives for new car buyers along with measures that encourage increased domestic production of parts & components using advanced technological processes; all leading up to greater consumer confidence on purchasing big ticket items like cars/motorcycles etc., thus driving adoption of Internal Combustion Engines across all segments in automotive sector including personal passenger vehicles (PPV), commercial vehicles (CV), two wheelers etc. The agricultural sector also serves an important role when it comes to fuelling demand for IC engine powered machines since they are extensively used across farmlands be it irrigation pumpsets or tractors etc.; consequently stimulating need for relevant spare parts/components too that further boosts consumption of these products within country???s borders itself without any imports involved thereby benefiting both manufacturers & end users alike through reduced costs associated with logistics liabilities incurred while shipping goods overseas thus making them more attractive proposition than before owing this factor alone.
Internal Combustion Engine based technologies still remain relatively expensive compared against their electric counterparts primarily because technology development required necessitates considerable investments upfront apart from regular research & development activities undertaken periodically so that problems faced can be addressed timely manner without compromising performance metrics even when subjecting them under stringent emissions standards applicable globally.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an adverse impact on the automotive industry as well as the production and sale of internal combustion engines in Thailand, but it is expected that by mid-2021, these impacts will be minimized with recovery from supply chain disruptions.
The key players operating in the Thailand internal combustion engine market are Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motors Company Limited, Isuzu Motors Ltd., Hino Motors Ltd., Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., Denso Corporation, among others. These companies are engaged in new product launches and acquisitions to expand their presence across different regions. For instance: In January 2021, Honda announced its new GXV160 small displacement 4-stroke gasoline engine for various commercial applications like walk behind mowers or blowers etc.
