Skyworth Remains The Market Leader For Indian STB Market

In the CY, Q2, 2013 as per 6Wresearch, the Indian set-top box market accounted for a total shipment of 55, 58,910 units, which is a five per cent increase corresponding to the last quarter. The market leader is Skyworth, followed by Cisco and Skynet.

The market share of Skyworth is 38 per cent. Skynet pipped Cisco by becoming the third largest player with a market share of 10 per cent. The three companies – Skyworth, Cisco and Skynet together account for a total market share of 59 per cent.

The firm, Skyworth witnessed an increase of 71 per cent in its unit shipments in the CY, Q2, 2013 as compared to CY Q1, 2013. While, Skynet witnessed a considerable growth of 283 per cent in CY Q2 2013. But, on the other hand, Cisco reported a decline of 10 per cent in its total unit shipments for CY Q2 2013.

The QoQ market for DVB-C (Cable) type of STBs reported 12 per cent increase, but, demand for DTH STBs dropped by 45 per cent with respect to the overall shipments for the STB market in India. The three companies are able to have strong foothold as market leaders in the STB market due to government regulated mass digitization of cable TV networks across India.
