Introduction of 3G/4G services and increasing data usage among Indian consumers have spurred the growth of the Wi-Fi Data Card market in India. Additionally, rising number of internet subscribers, growing SME and SOHO segment have further fuelled the demand for these devices in the country.

According to 6Wresearch, India Wi-Fi Data Card market (comprising MiFi and Wingle) shipments volume reached around 1.1 million units during CY 1Q 2015. Lava led the overall market followed by Huawei and ZTE. Other major players in the India Wi-Fi mobile broadband market are iBall, Haier, D-Link, Intex and Enter.

In terms of unit shipments, 3G Wingle devices captured major market share during CY Q1 2015. Wide reception, high-speed connectivity and cost effective data plans have resulted in an increase in demand for these devices in the country.

Additionally, the demand for MiFi devices is expected to increase, especially in the SOHO segment over the coming quarters. The demand will be majorly driven by the growth in data consumption across handled devices such as smartphones and tablets.

The acceptance of Wi-Fi Data Card devices is slow due to lack of awareness among the Indian consumers. However, with the encouragement of ‘Make in India’ campaign, new players are expected to enter resulting in the declining ASP of data cards which would certainly assist the growth of the India Wi-Fi Data Card market.
