India Tablet PC Market shipments volume reached 3.44 million units for the year ending June 2014, according to research by 6Wresearch India. In comparison, an estimated 250 mln mobile handsets are sold in India in a year, including around 50 mln smartphones.
Samsung continued its dominance in the India Tablet PC market followed by Micromax and Apple. Micromax continues to give tough competition due to its low price based product portfolio, the agency said.
In the OS (Operating System) segment, android bagged more than 87% market share followed by 12% of IOS-based Tablet PC. Further, Windows OS exhibited substantial triple-digit growth in 1Q 2014 over the previous quarter.
Wide acceptance of Phablets among the Indian consumers acts as a hurdle for the projected growth of the India Tablet PC market. Further, delay in BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certifications have deferred the entry of foreign players halting the growth of India Tablet PC market.
Rising demand for mobility across the consumer electronics sector, primarily in the Education and Private enterprises have fuelled the growth of the India Tablet PC market. Affordable prices and the growing need of customers for OS (Operating System) based devices are some of the other major factors which are contributing to the growth of the India Tablet PC market.
Indian players especially across the IT sector are implementing BYOD (Bring-Your-Own-Device) policy. Further, government initiatives, multiple distribution points, and the emergence of new players are likely to drive the growth of the local and international vendors in the India Tablet PC market.
