The fight to remain in top ‘five‘, intensifies in Global cellular M2M modules market

In last 3 years, global cellular M2M modules market has seen a series of acquisitions which includes Cinterion' s acquisition by Gemalto, Motorola by Telit, Enfora by Novatel Wireless and Fussion Wireless by u-blox. Recently, Sierra Wireless also strengthened its M2M position by acquiring Sagemcom’s machine-to-machine (M2M) business on June 20, 2012 for a deal value of $56.6 million in cash.

Sagemcom is a France based firm that specializes in the areas of communication, energy, broadband, M2M etc. The Company which currently holds sixth position in terms of market share by revenue in global cellular M2M modules market provides 2G and 3G wireless equipments and terminals for wireless communications for railways. With this acquisition Sierra Wireless is expected to increase its exposure in the European and South American markets.

In the coming years, we expect more acquisitions in the growing M2M market, with big players moving towards acquisition spree in order to gain market share. It would be no surprise to see the shift in top position, which is currently held by Sierra Wireless, over the coming years in the global M2M market
